Everyone has an invisible energy system or chakras. Whereas meridians are an energy transportation system, chakras are energy stations. The word chakra means disk, vortex, or wheel.

Chakras are lotus shaped and regulate the flow of your life force through the mid-line of your body. The lotus is a universal symbol of beauty, prosperity and fertility. According to Hinduism, within each human is the spirit of the sacred lotus. It represents eternity, purity and divinity and is widely used as a symbol of life, fertility, youthfulness and femininity.

There are seven energy stations positioned from the base of your spine to the top of your head. In energy health, if you are losing or leaking energy at the base chakra located at the bottom of your spine, you may feel depression, anxiety and exhaustion.

The main source of happiness and well-being comes from the heart -- that energy center or “chakra” located in the mid-chest that is the source of loving kindness and compassion. When we begin to open this area, the sweetness of this energy flows forth in our bodies to lessen fatigue and buoy our mood.

A technique I suggest for opening the heart is simple. Get in a quiet place. Take a few steady, deep breaths. If thoughts intrude keep focusing on your breath. Then picture an image that is loving and positive. It may be your loved one’s face, a new puppy, a mother bird in her nest. Hold that image for a few minutes and feel the positive energy of the heart open and flow through you. This is a wonderful tool if you are feeling tired or anxious. It brings you back to center again and alleviates stress and fatigue.

An energetic law to remember is that we attract what we give off. If we are dominated by fear, we will attract it back to us. If we are filled with love and compassion, that will come back too. We can attract positive energy to us by practicing being more loving and understanding toward ourselves and others -- embodying what we hope to attract to us. We need to maintain our sensitivities in this world but also learn how to protect and shield ourselves to remain strong while being bombarded with negative energies.

Sample Problem: Many people are energy depleted because they are not able to hold enough life force energy or chi. In this depleted condition, you are flushing energy down and away from you. In order to maintain good energy health, you want energy spiraling upward into your base chakra.

Correction: When there is a leak, you have to patch it. Close your eyes and imagine you can see the energy leaking out of your tailbone. Imagine a patch large enough to cover the leak. Place the patch over the leak and imagine reversing the flow to spiral it up into your body through your tailbone.

Although cross cultural healing traditions all have a term for subtle energy, such as Chi, Prana and Shakti, unfortunately Western Medicine does not believe it exists. This is a travesty because by overlooking the “energetic element” of health and behavior many healing options are missed.

So whether you are a veteran student of energy medicine or brand new to this information, the chakras energy system is one of the most powerful and important energy systems to understand. I highly recommend you learn more details about it to change the results of your life.
